Abstract

ABSTRACT-

Vulvitis is an inflammation of the soft folds of skin on the outside of the female genitalia, the vulva. The vulva is the first line of defense to protect the genital tract from infection. Contaminants often collect in the vulval folds, and increased moisture; sweating, due to presence of apocrine and sweat glands. Presence of hair follicles leads to folliculitis. Regular menstrual flow, and hormonal fluctuations influence vulvar microbial growth especially in case of poor local defense, potentially resulting in odor and vulval infection.  The irritation can be caused by infection, allergic reaction, or injury. The skin of the vulva is especially susceptible to irritation due to its moistness and warmth. Woman of premenopausal age will be affected by vulvitis most probably.
